Students fulfil their creative talent and ambitions as writers on a professionally focused course that has produced a number of notable authors, poets and scriptwriters. Students study writing and develop their practice with the guidance of an internationally acclaimed team of authors. The course is suitable for graduates with ambitions to become a professional writer. Students: join one of the longest established masters in the U.K; study on a course that has produced a number of acclaimed writers; complete a full novel, script or collection of poems or stories for adults or children.

Entry requirements

A folder of original writing demonstrating postgraduate level potential and, normally, a 1st degree in English or related discipline. Where English is not the applicants 1st language: IELTS 6.0 score with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: what is contemporary?; novel; short story; life-writing; poetry; scriptwriting; writing for children; script editing; literary editing; the writer as teacher; project.

Assessment methods

Submission of written work to specified word lengths with accompanying critical commentaries.
