On this programme students learn core social science research methods alongside supporting theory relating to business. This course is ideal for students planning a career in business and management or for those who wish to conduct research in this area. Students develop social science research skills alongside business-specific knowledge; learn from lecturers who are experts in a wide range of research areas; complete a research-based dissertation, which may become a pilot study towards a PhD; study modules as short courses or as part of a postgraduate qualification.

Entry requirements

Normally an Honours degree, or equivalent, in a suitable subject; if the student's 1st language is not English, they need to have achieved IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or equivalent; alternatively a Sheffield Hallam University pre-sessional English course which will enable students to achieve an equivalent English score; students who have suitable qualifications or experience may seek exemption from some modules.

Course modules

Modules include: qualitative methodologies and interviewing skills; qualitative research designs; discourse and linguistic theory and analysis; quantitative research; multivariate statistical analysis; survey design; advanced design and statistics for psychology; philosophies of business and management research; research design and execution for organisation and business.

Assessment methods

Essays, projects and presentations.
