Building Surveying

This is a fast-track conversion course to become a chartered building surveyor. The programme is suitable for graduates from unrelated subjects who want to become chartered building surveyors and it is also suitable for professionals in the sector looking to develop their career prospects. The course features excellent resources: including high-tech non-destructive testing equipment; a University owned Georgian house with an opened-up structure for teaching; high-tech non-destructive testing equipment including flexible endoscopes, borescopes and a thermal imaging camera; practical and laboratory work; work on professional briefs with other students.

Entry requirements

A degree in any discipline or an equivalent professional qualification. If 1st language is not English: IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.5 in writing and 5.5 in all other skills or equivalent. Alternatively a Sheffield Hallam University pre-sessional English course will enable applicants to achieve an equivalent English score.

Course modules

Modules include: construction fundamentals; professional skills; law for the built environment; economics for the built environment; building pathology; planning development and sustainability; development projects; structural principles; contract administration; landlord and tenant law; fire safety studies; building surveying commercial studies; refurbishment project; dissertation consultancy project.
