Quantity Surveying

This fast-track course allows graduates from unrelated disciplines to qualify as chartered quantity surveyors. Studies have a hands-on focus, responding to real professional briefs with other students. It also offers the opportunity to gain international experience on a study trip to Shanghai. The course involves working alongside students from related subjects to gain a view of the industry as a whole and gaining hands-on experience working on professional briefs over intensive study weeks.

Entry requirements

A degree or equivalent in a related discipline or a recognised professional qualification at corporate membership level; applicants with alternative qualifications or a combination of qualifications and relevant work experience may also be considered; if English is not the student's 1st language they typically need an IELTS 6.5 score with a minimum of 6.5 in writing and 5.5 in all other skills or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: construction fundamentals; professional skills; law for the built environment; economics for the built environment; cost studies; planning, development and sustainability; measurement; quantity surveying professional practice; contract administration; project procurement; project financial management; investment and finance; international project; dissertation/consultancy project.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include: coursework; projects; examinations.
