Students use their experience as a teacher or practitioner, working in an educational or related setting, to develop a reflective and critical approach to issues arising from their professional practice. The course allows students scope to focus on a setting that is relevant to them, whether within a school or profession allied to education. The programme is suitable for teachers and practitioners in other related fields. Students get advice choosing a focus for their assessments that will be best suited to their career; develop their specialist understanding with a substantial enquiry into a specialist area.

Entry requirements

BA (Honours) degree or equivalent, the degree classification may be taken into account and an example of academic writing may be requested. Applicants normally need to be employed in a professional role relevant to their study. If English is not applicants 1st language: IELTS score of 6.5 with 6.5 in reading and 6.5 in writing. A face-to-face or telephone interview may be undertaken to ensure applicants' spoken language skills meet the requirements for working with learners in an educational setting or context. Accreditation of Prior Credit and Learning (APCL): existing Master's level credit from previous postgraduate study may be eligible for exemption from some elements of the early stages of this course.

Course modules

Core modules include: curriculum design and innovation; comparative studies of professional practice; contemporary issues; reflecting on professional practice; educational enquiry.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by 100 per cent coursework and includes: presentations; reflective accounts; individual and group activities; essays; research reports.
