Develop existing knowledge of transport planning on a course designed to give students specific skills to take into roles in this growing sector. Students consider innovative solutions to improving transport for the good of the individual, society, the environment and the economy. The course is suitable for graduates in a relevant subject and professionals in the sector, including land use planning engineering, policy, environmental and policy as well of transport. Students gain a detailed view of transport initiatives and policies, and can study for a postgraduate qualification or individual modules as a short course to fulfil a particular area of interest.
A 1st degree in a relevant area of study such as geography, urban studies, business studies, town planning or engineering, or equivalent professional qualification and/or experience. If English is not candidates 1st language: IELTS 6.0 score with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills or equivalent. Alternatively a Sheffield Hallam University pre-sessional English course which will enable applicants to achieve an equivalent English score.
Level 1 modules: environment and infrastructure; introduction to geographical information systems (GIS); transport policy and design; world transport solutions. Level 2 modules: transport impacts on human health and equity; network analysis and transport modelling; transport planning and finance; engineering concepts (elective); consultancy project (elective). Level 3 modules: applied research methods; dissertation.
Assessment methods include: examination; course work; thesis for MSc.
