Early Years Education (3-7)

Gain the skills and confidence to achieve Qualified Teacher Status and teach children aged 3 - 7. As well as building knowledge of the early years foundation stage (EYFS) and curriculum, students develop teaching skills by spending over 120 days on placement.

Entry requirements

Normally GCSE grade A or B in English and mathematics, although we consider applicants with grade C or equivalent and a wider profile. The wider profile may include experience of working in related settings, demonstrating how existing skills will contribute to achievement as a teacher, or providing evidence of working at a higher level in these subjects through further qualifications. We also require a grade C in science or equivalent. Applicants must already hold the GCSE requirements before applying for the course. Applicants should hold either a 2.1 degree or above, or a 2.2 degree plus evidence of at least 1 year's work experience in a foundation stage or primary school setting, for example employment as a teaching assistant or unqualified teacher with evidence of at least 15 days recent foundation stage or primary school teaching experience with 5 of these days as continuous teaching (gained in 2 years before application). Applicants also successfully complete pre-entry tests in numeracy and literacy as designated by the National College for Teaching and Leadership. If English is not your 1st language you must have an IELTS score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in all skills or equivalent. For equivalents see our English language entry requirements web page.
