Become a qualified teacher in post-16 and further education on this professional body endorsed course. It maps to the national framework for post-16 / further education teaching qualifications and leads to QTLS status. Students complete 6 modules and a minimum of 120 hours of teaching, either in the place of work or in a placement that we arrange.
Applicants typically require: A good degree or equivalent; level 2 (GCSE) or equivalent in English and mathematics (if you are already employed as a teacher or tutor these can be completed alongside the 1st year of the part-time PGCE qualification); experience of a post-16 or further education teaching environment, sufficient to demonstrate awareness of chosen subject or specialist context; in-service students must have evidence that they are already working as a teacher or tutor and will teach a minimum of 60 hours in each year of the course, and that their employer will provide a specialist mentor to support them; the skills and commitment to benefit from higher education. Students who already have a relevant qualification such as PTLLS or CTLLS you may be able to enter with prior credit. We normally interview all applicants who meet our entry criteria. If English is not your 1st language you must have an IELTS score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in all skills or equivalent.
Modules include: Introduction to learning, teaching and assessment; the learner experience; professional practice 1 and 2; exploring your specialist context; extending teaching for learning.
Assessment methods include assessment of practical teaching, presentations, planning and evaluation exercises, preparation of teaching materials and written assignments.
