Gain qualified teacher status (QTS) as a teacher of 14-19 business education with experience teaching Key Stages 4 and 5. Through study and teaching placements, students develop the skills, knowledge and experience needed to teach pupils with a range of abilities in both secondary school and college settings.Key points.

Entry requirements

All applicants need GCSE in mathematics and English language at grade C or above or equivalent. We consider applicants who are in the process of obtaining the relevant GCSEs. Applicants must hold an Honours degree (normally 2.2 or above) or equivalent, which includes substantial elements of business education study. Applicants are encouraged to gain substantial experience of school/s through voluntary teaching/supporting teaching and/or direct observation of teaching and learning and/or by working with young people in business education related activities. We consider each application on its merits. Interviews are part of the selection process for this course. Applicants are required to complete a declaration of criminal convictions and health forms. Applicants must also successfully complete pre-entry tests in numeracy and literacy as designated by the National College for Teaching and Leadership. If English is not your 1st language you must have an IELTS score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in all skills or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: Developing and reflecting on professional practice in secondary business education; learning and teaching in context in business education; block placement 1; block placement 2.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include research projects and written assignments, individual and group work, presentations and reports, preparing teaching materials and plans and teaching practice.
