Gain qualified teacher status (QTS) as a teacher of computing with experience teaching Key Stages 3 to 5. Through study and teaching placements, students develop the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm needed to teach pupils with a range of abilities in both secondary school and college settings.
All applicants need GCSE mathematics and English language at grade C or above or equivalent. We will consider applicants who are in the process of obtaining the relevant GCSEs. Applicants must hold an Honours degree (2.2 or above) or equivalent which includes substantial elements of computer science or ICT study. If an applicant demonstrates potential but does not yet have the full skills range, we may offer an SKE course. Applicants are encouraged to gain experience of schools through direct observation of teaching and learning and/or by working with young people in computer-related or other educational activities. Applicants must also successfully complete pre-entry tests in numeracy and literacy as designated by the National College for Teaching and Leadership. We consider each application on its merits. Interviews are part of the selection process for this course. Applicants will be required to complete a declaration of criminal convictions and health check forms. If English is not your 1st language you must have an IELTS score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in all skills or equivalent.
Modules include: Developing and reflecting on professional practice in secondary computing; learning and teaching in context in computing; block placement 1; block placement 2.
Assessment methods include research projects, individual and group work, presentations and reports, preparing teaching materials and plans and teaching practice.
