Sport Business Management

This course is designed to build on students' previous sport or business management studies and experience, and equip them with the skills needed for a career in sports management. Studies have a global perspective on the sports industry and are enhanced through links with internationally and nationally significant sport organisations and Sheffield's major sports venues and events. Students: develop skills needed for a career in the management of sport services, events and products; learn from staff with substantial industry, research and consultancy experience; gain experience of working in management in sport through a 12 week placement option; develop specialist knowledge by completing an industry-based consultancy project for clients like Manchester City FC, International Cricket Council and Ultimate Fight Championship.

Entry requirements

Normally a relevant management-based Honours degree or recognised equivalent qualification; applications are welcome from those who have substantial management experience but who do not have the normal entry requirements; students may be invited for an interview to discuss their particular background, experience and qualifications; through accreditation of prior learning (APL), students may claim entry with credit or exemptions on the basis of their existing qualifications, knowledge and experience; non-native English speakers need to be proficient in English, typically shown by an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: researching sport; sport marketing and enterprise; global economics of sport; sport law; developing people for management in sport; applied sport research; sport event management and viability; sport and the media; project.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include: coursework assignments; essays; management projects; problem solving exercises; group work; project; phase tests.
