This course is designed for consultants, general practitioners or specialist registrars looking to develop their leadership and management skills. Most of the work is based around workplace assignments allowing students to focus on the issues and problems most relevant to their practice. Students: develop their current leadership skills and have them recognised in a formal qualification; study around their work commitments with only 10 days attendance a year; take core modules centred on the Medical Leadership Competency Framework (MLCF); apply learning with work-based modules.
Applicants must be qualified and practising hospital consultants or GPs.
Year 1: managing people and organisations; work-based learning project; operations management and managing quality and effectiveness; year 2 modules; change and organisational development; commissioning in health and social care; managing finance; managing teams; strategic medical management (work-based learning); year 3; research methods (e-learning); dissertation (leadership).
Assessment methods include: group discussions, presentations, written assignments.
