Advanced Sport Coaching Practice

The course aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of advanced sport coaching practice and apply it to your coaching, to apply and embed the latest research and cutting edge technology into your coaching. Also to directly evidence how your advancing coaching practice meets the competencies of the UKCC level 4.

Entry requirements

The course is selective and welcomes applications from coaches who are graduates with a 2.1 or above. Applicants who don't have a degree, will be considered with evidence of a minimum of 5 years experience of working in a performance coaching environment (minimum 5 years). Applicants should hold a NGB approved level 3 coaching qualification or UKCC level 3 coach or international equivalent coaching qualification, and hold a recognised coaching licence or membership of a recognised sport coaching association or membership of a recognised international sport coaching federation. Where candidates lack experience, evidence of continual professional development in coaching or equivalent levels of study in coaching will be sought for example, UK Sport, Sports Coach UK performance workshops. Applicants may be invited to interview.

Course modules

Year 1 modules: Developing professional practice; psychology of coaching performance; applied biomechanics and performance analysis; applied sport science 1; year 2 modules; advanced professional practice; advanced psychology of performance coaching; advanced biomechanics and match analysis; applied sport science 2; year 3 modules; research methods for practice; project.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include case studies, reports, presentations, research project thesis, portfolio and interventions.
