International Tourism Management

Suitable for both those with a tourism background and those who want to move into the sector, this course develops students' professional and management expertise in global tourism industry. They are taught by internationally acclaimed experts who use real life projects and case studies to prepare them for the next step in their career. Students: develop the skills to meet a global demand for well-qualified employees in tourism; study a wide range of modules, including policy and planning, and destination marketing; work on real-life projects to gain experience for portfolio; benefit from the insights of an internationally acclaimed and experienced lecturing team.

Entry requirements

Normally an Honours degree or recognised equivalent qualification; applications are welcome from those who have substantial management experience but who do not have the normal entry requirements; they may be invited for an interview to discuss their particular background, experience and qualifications; through accreditation of prior learning (APL), students may be able to claim entry with credit or exemptions based on their existing qualifications, knowledge and experience; if English is not the student's 1st language they need an IELTS 6.0 score with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or equivalent.

Course modules

Semester 1: sector industry analysis; tourism policy and planning; marketing; managing people; research methods; semester 2: tourist destination management and marketing; tourism and globalisation; research and consultancy project; tourism consultancy study visit; plus 1 option from: internationalisation of hospitality; sustainable tourism and hospitality in the 21st century; international cultural events; management decision making in food and beverage operations; visitor attraction management; semester 3: dissertation.

Assessment methods

These include: Essays; management projects; problem solving exercises; group work; dissertation.
