International Human Resource Management

Students learn to think more globally on a course designed for professionals wanting to improve their career opportunities in human resource management (HRM) within international organisations. It explores the issues and factors arising in international HRM including cross-cultural leadership and organisational ethics. Students: study specialist HRM theory from an international perspective; develop a broad range of professional expertise in international business, management and leadership; improve their ability to manage and interpret budgets and use specialist IT for HR; learn how to develop ideas with an international perspective when researching their dissertation.

Entry requirements

Normally a good degree (2.2) or equivalent in any discipline, preferably including the study of people in organisations, or a professional equivalent; applicants without a 1st degree may be considered if they have the necessary experience and can demonstrate an ability to complete the course; overseas applicants from countries whose 1st language is not English must normally produce evidence of competence in English; an IELTS score of 6.0 with 6.0 in all skills (or equivalent) is the standard for non-native speakers of English.

Course modules

Semester 1: organisation analysis and design; cross-cultural leadership; international human resource development; context of HR; research methods (part 1). Semester 2: comparative approaches to international employee relations; international strategies for HRM; information and financial management for HR; organisational ethics and corporate social responsibility; research methods (part 2). Semester 3: MSc dissertation.

Coursework and dissertation.
