Students learn how to help organisations compete more successfully in the UK or internationally through better strategy and financial management; they learn to think strategically about finance with an emphasis on business awareness, research and critical analysis; students complete in-depth research into a number of industries; the course has a real-world focus with strong links to professional bodies such as the ACCA, CIMA and ACT.
Normally 1 of the following: an Honours degree, a recognised postgraduate qualification, or an equivalent recognised professional qualification. Relevant subjects include: accounting, banking, business management, business administration, economics, finance, financial services, global trade/business. Applicants who do not have such academic qualifications may be considered individually, based on their personal, professional and work experience or other formal qualifications. For overseas applicants whose 1st language is not English: IELTS score of 6.0 with 5.5 in all skills; or alternatively a Sheffield Hallam pre-sessional English course. If candidates do not meet the above criteria they can apply for the graduate diploma in business and English. After passing this diploma they are automatically offered a place on one of the business-related Master�s.
Modules include: finance; methods of enquiry; understanding markets; financial risk management; corporate finance; corporate governance and ethics; strategic management accounting for performance enhancement; research methods; dissertation. Optional modules include: advanced portfolio management; consultancy project; financial analysis; information system auditing; innovation in the digital enterprise; international treasury management.
Assessment methods include: assignments; examinations; dissertation.
