Food Consumer Marketing and Product Development

This course is for those interested or involved in any part of food product development. Students: learn how to develop, commercialise and deliver products to market effectively; develop the skills needed as both a practitioner and manager in the industry; improve employability with real food industry experience through a placement.

Entry requirements

Normally 1 of the following in a relevant subject: an Honours degree, 2.2 or above; an equivalent recognised qualification; an HND with significant relevant industrial experience. Relevant subjects include business, science, social science or a food related discipline. In exceptional circumstances candidates without formal qualifications are considered if they demonstrate the necessary experience, intellect and motivation. Work experience route: if English is not the student's 1st language they need an IELTS score of 6.5. Non-work experience route: If English is not the student's 1st language they need an IELTS score of 6.0.

Course modules

Modules include: developing food concepts and products; marketing; food processing, safety and quality management; research methods; sector industry analysis; developing food concepts and products; food merchandising; managing people; dissertation. Optional modules include: food consumer behaviour; population nutrition.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include: individual and group coursework; essays; reports; seen and unseen exams; portfolio of evidence; dissertation.
