The programme enables students to engage critically with the varied aspects of Chinese literature; it covers both pre-modern and modern literatures of China. The course includes the study of literary works written in the original languages, as well as an introduction to literary theory.
Minimum Upper 2nd Class Honours degree (or equivalent); incoming students will be expected to have completed at least the equivalent of 2 years of undergraduate Chinese language study.
Traditional Chinese literature in translation; modern Chinese literature in translation; compulsory course; theory and techniques of comparative literature.
A 10,000 word dissertation.
