Japanese Literature

This programme covers both pre-modern and modern literatures of Japan; it includes the study of literary works written in the original languages, as well as an introduction to literary theory.

Entry requirements

Minimum upper 2nd Class Honours degree (or equivalent), plus linguistic competence in Japanese.

Course modules

Japanese traditional drama (Master's); modern Japanese literature (Master's); theory and techniques of comparative literature; readings in pre-modern Japanese literature (Master's); readings in modern Japanese literature; practical translation: English into Japanese; practical translation: Japanese into English; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Dissertation.
