This programme enables students to engage critically with different aspects of Turkish culture and society; the degree offers comprehensive training in the field of Turkish studies.

Entry requirements

Minimum upper 2nd Class Honours degree in a social science or humanities subject or equivalent.

Course modules

Social and political trends in 19th century Turkish literature; selected topics in 20th century Turkish literature; classical Ottoman literature (Master's); Turkey: continuity and change; the end of empire in the Middle East and the Balkans; Islamic art and architecture of medieval Anatolia and the south Caucasus (11-13th centuries); art and architecture of the early Ottomans and the Beyliks (13-15th centuries); elementary written Turkish; intensive Turkish language; intermediate modern Turkish language; advanced translation (Turkish); Ottoman Turkish language.
