Theory and techniques of comparative literature; social and political dimensions of modern Arabic literature; Arabic women's writing: theories and practices; early and medieval Arabic linguistic thought: scholarship and literature; a modern Arabic literary genre: themes and techniques; Arabic poetry and criticism; Arabic popular literature: themes, genres and theory; modern Palestinian literature (PG); classical Arabic prose literature and Adab; reading classical Arabic historians: themes and trends in Islamic historiography; Arabic critical theory and thought; culture, society and politics in classical Arabic literature.
