The course aims to cater for students that have a wealth of professional expertise and practical experience and are likely to be very motivated; it provides a flexible, accessible, structured, and interactive programme of study that is designed to meet the needs of the maritime industries and the career aspirations of students through the development of specialised knowledge and skills in the areas of ship safety management or human resource aspects of shipping operations.
An honours degree in maritime studies, shipping, business or law, or another appropriate subject and relevant professional qualifications/experience. Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are: IELTS minimum 6.5 (6.0 in writing); TOEFL IBT 92 (22 in writing); PTE Academic 61 (56 in writing) or equivalent.
Modules include: Postgraduate and self-managed study; international maritime context; business research skills; professional skills and practice portfolio. Optional modules: risk and safety management; legal process; strategic management of the human element; maritime talent management; safety culture; accident investigation and organisational learning; performance and reward management; employee relations and engagement.
Assessment is through coursework, presentations, briefing papers, reports, portfolios, personal development plans and project work (including a dissertation).
