Healthcare Practice

This programme offers professional development appropriate for generic and early career health professionals as well as the more established practitioner wishing to move into an advanced practice role. It offers a varied and flexible programme of practical and academic study as well as a generic route in which the student self-selects modules of study, there are a range of named pathways which allow the exploration of participants' specialist areas of practice, including the development of advanced skills in autonomous practice. These pathways include: acute medicine; advanced practice; advanced practice (clinical cancer care); cancer care; cardiac care; community and integrated care; intensive care; maternal and child health; psychosocial interventions.

Entry requirements

Applicants require a 2nd class Honours degree or above in a recognised health-related subject (or an equivalent overseas qualification) and a recognised health-related professional qualification and evidence of current valid professional registration (e.g. PIN number); applicants should normally have 1 year post-qualifying practice experience and be working in an area of healthcare practice at the point of application; personal statement and 2 satisfactory references are required; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent (with a minimum 6.0 in each component).

Course modules

Compulsory modules include: research methods; dissertation research project or work-based project or systematic review; plus optional modules.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include oral presentations, reports, written examinations, scope of practice portfolio, practice-based assessments, case logs and dissertation.
