Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching
A 1st degree with at least 2nd Class Honours, plus 3 years professional experience in education. Applications will also be considered from graduates without the full 3 years' professional experience if their 1st degree is in a subject related to applied linguistics. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require an overall IELTS score of 6.5, with at least 6.5 in writing.
Modules may include: language theory; English language description; ELT syllabus design and methodology; language acquisition; sociolinguistics; ELT teacher development and management; research methods and dissertation.
To qualify for the MA students will need to be awarded 180 credits. There are 6 essays to complete, 1 for each module, and each worth 20 credits. The dissertation is worth 60 credits. The pass mark is 50 per cent. Marks between 60 per cent and 69 per cent are in the merit category; marks over 70 per cent are in the distinction category.
