Irish Studies

The programme takes a thematic and interdisciplinary approach to Irish studies providing grounding in critical theory and research methods suitable for advanced study.

Entry requirements

A good 1st degree (2.1 or 1st class or their international equivalent) in literature, history, film and media studies, or any related discipline. In exceptional circumstances applicants may be accepted without such a qualification if 1 demonstrates an aptitude for this kind of study, usually through a written exercise.

Course modules

Modules include: researching modernities; staging and screening exile; new perspectives in Irish history; modern Irish literature; research methods and dissertation; professional attachment; production project; Irish language.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by a range of methods including written assignments of various kinds, seminar presentations, conference reports, audio visual (AV) materials and online environments.
