Public History

This course combines 2 approaches to studying public history. The broadly vocational, skills-oriented approach will help students to develop the work-based knowledge that they will require to work in museums, galleries, archives and other related fields. The broadly theoretical approach will sharpen students' critical awareness of how historical knowledge functions in the wider culture, and will provide a platform for those who wish to continue their research at doctoral level. Students will be able to make regular use of the National Archives in their work for this course.
