Computer Networks and Security
The programme provides specialist study of computer networks and computer security. These two areas are strongly related, given the ubiquity of networks and the vulnerability to attack of networks and of systems connected to them. Although computer network security is covered in the course, the award is a hybrid of computer network study and computer security with the intention to equip you with advanced skills in both areas. The networking topics utilise Cisco networking equipment and support material provided by Cisco Systems Inc. This course will give you the knowledge, lifelong learning skills and enthusiasm needed to support and manage both corporate networks and security systems.
Modules include: Networking concepts (two weeks pre-enrolment); research methods; professional switched networks; network security; computer security: low-level; virtualisation; advanced quality of service techniques over a converged network; professional routed networks; maintaining a converged IP based network; dissertation.
Assessment throughout the programme can be expected to ensure a suitable balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skills. A theoretical base for the award is needed to understand the practical aspects of the work.
