This programme consists of a group of work-based, distance-learning awards in clinical photography and graphic design for health care, offered by the faculty of arts, media and design; the aim of this programme is to provide continuing professional development, including specialist knowledge and skills, for people who are already in work as medical illustrators; students cover topics such as the legal and ethical issues encountered in medical illustration, anatomy and physiology and computer skills for medical illustration; achievement of this award entitles students to be entered onto the HPC register, register with the committee for the accreditation of medical illustration practitioners (CAMIP) as well as become a full member of the institute of medical illustrators;
Applicants must be employed in a healthcare environment that gives them access to the clinical situations, specialist equipment and workplace supervisors necessary for the successful completion of assignments.
Modules include: the legal and ethical issues encountered in medical illustration; anatomy and physiology; computer skills for medical illustration.
Practical assignments in: healthcare location photography; patient photography and lighting techniques; ophthalmic photography; dental photography; surgical photography.
