Strategic Human Resource Management
The course aims to provide experienced practitioners who are CIPD qualified with a challenging programme that develops their strategic competence. It is intended to provoke and challenge the course participants in their thinking and expectations about how and why we manage people at work. The programme challenges participants to consider how different HRM approaches may be more effective in achieving corporate success.
You must have successfully completed the PG Diploma in HRM/HRD (or equivalent) and have at least 2 years experience in a senior managerial, strategic role in order to allow you to contextualise the research and learning. You would normally be a graduate associate or full member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. You must demonstrate an appropriate level of experience and potential to benefit from the course. Evidence of satisfactory English language skills is required for candidates where English is not their 1st language, such as IELTS 7.0 or above, or TOEFL 550 or above.
This is a 'top up' qualification intended to build upon the CIPD PG Diploma in HRM/D. The programme is designed as an extension programme linked to continuing professional development. The programme is research orientated with the dissertation providing the 60 M level credits needed to attain a full Masters degree. An initial induction and then the option to participate in 3 sessions of business research methodology are the only fixed times of attendance. The dissertation is the essential component of this Masters award. It is a demonstration of the participants ability to research a topic using both primary and secondary research techniques. Considerable emphasis is placed on the ability of the participant to evaluate critically, to analyse, synthesise and develop a sustainable academic argument in the area of study and to make significant comments on HRM in practice at the strategic level. Each student is supported by a personal tutor, knowledgeable in their chosen area of study and will be available for support throughout the research.
