This course contains only 1 compulsory module (the research project) and allows students to put together a course that suits them from the list of modules that are available in the ecology and conservation suite of courses; the course may be particularly attractive to people in employment who want to tailor the course to their specific job-related needs and can use the extra time a part-time course gives to negotiate around timetable clashes; the MSc consists of a research project and 8 modules; the postgraduate diploma in ecology and conservation is awarded for the completion of 8 modules but does not include the research project and the postgraduate certificate is awarded for the completion of 4 modules.

Entry requirements

2.2 degree in a biological, environmental or geographical subject and/or accredited professional qualification or vocational experience in relevant areas.

Core module: Research project (MSc only); options include: greening the grey (biodiversity, buildings and sealed surfaces); ecological survey and identification skills; habitat mapping and geographical information systems (GIS); managing aquatic habitats; managing terrestrial habitats; managing the consequences of climate change; negotiated learning module; professional practice for ecologists; invertebrate conservation management; invertebrate taxonomy and specialist identification; research placement; residential field course; sustainable greenspace; work placement.
