Medieval Studies

The course covers Late Antiquity to the Renaissance, and the British Isles and France to Italy and the Holy Land. Areas of particular staff expertise include gender, warfare, aristocratic culture, and frontiers and borderlands. Students have the opportunity to become familiar with the medieval heritage of South Wales and the surrounding region.

Entry requirements

Typical entry requirement is a 1st degree in medieval studies, history or literature or a relevant discipline, normally a lower 2nd or above or equivalent. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: introduction to advanced medieval studies 1: skills and approaches; introduction to advanced medieval studies 2: themes and sources; medieval languages; postgraduate Latin; literature; discovering Old English; modern languages.
