Ancient History

This programme allows students to study in depth a topic related to the history, culture, or archaeology of the classical world, from Mycenaean Greece to the fall of the Roman Empire. Students are encouraged to develop a methodological awareness and are introduced to key concepts and interpretative techniques that shape the study of the ancient civilisations in the modern world. This programme develops research skills needed for high-level work in any field of Ancient History.

Entry requirements

Normally a minimum of a 2.1 degree (or equivalent) in a related subject or relevant work experience. English language requirement IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or Swansea University recognised equivalent.

Assessment methods

A thesis of no more than 40,000 words. This is followed by an oral examination of the thesis.
