Chinese to English Translation and Language Teaching
The course is specifically designed for Chinese students and aims to equip them with languages specific knowledge and skills in both translation studies and applied linguistics. In particular, it attempts to situate the broad area of translation studies in the specifically targeted context, translating between English and Chinese. The course also addresses the issue of non native speakers as English teachers. The programme covers applied language studies, translating and teaching English or Chinese as a 2nd language. The programme has 2 unique pathways, Translation and TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and Translation and TCAL (Teaching Chinese as an Additional Language).
The typical entry requirement is a 1st degree in English language or Chinese language related studies, normally a lower 2nd Class or above or equivalent. Overseas students are expected to possess an IELTS score of 6.0.
Modules include: Chinese language studies; advanced translation (English to Chinese); communicative language teaching; classroom teaching practice; Chinese to English translation theory and practice; corpus linguistics.
