Health Humanities

This course is leading the way in health humanities through the application of the concepts and methods of history, literature and the visual arts to the analysis of health and healthcare. Disability history is a particular area of expertise, with an oral history of people affected by the drug, thalidomide, currently underway. Students are exploring a variety of areas within these fields ranging from narratives of childbirth to images of disability in the post-war English-language literature of Wales.

Entry requirements

Applicants for the PhD programme would normally have, or be studying for a Master's degree, while our MPhil programme requires a 1st or upper 2nd degree in a discipline related to the proposed research project, or a relevant, approved postgraduate qualification. In some cases, there may be opportunities for MPhil students to continue their studies as a PhD student. English language requirement IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.5 in each component) or Swansea University recognised equivalent.
