Advanced Computer Science (Visual Computing)
This specialist pathway in visual computing provides training in computer graphics, computer vision (including medical image analysis), and scientific visualisation. On the course, applicants are provided with an opportunity to acquire essential skills in these subject areas that prepare for further studies and research in academia or research and development in industry. Visual computing has a wide range of applications, e.g. gaming, computer graphics, vision engineering, and biomedical engineering. The modules provide students with broad, in-depth technical knowledge and skills in terms of both theoretical understanding and practical experience of visual computing techniques, fundamental mathematical and algorithmic principles in those subject areas and the ability to plan and accomplish a substantial project in visual computing.
Normally a 2.2 Honours degree or above in computer science or related subject. English language requirement IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or a Swansea University recognised equivalent.
Modules typically include: computer vision and pattern recognition; data visualisation; graphics processor programming; high performance computing in c/c++; interaction technologies (hardware and devices); interaction technologies: lab and field work; interaction technologies: seminars and readings; visual computing project development.
