Students undertake original research on a particular topic related to the languages, literature, philosophy, and culture of the Classical world, from Homer to the later Roman Empire, and the reception of the ancient world in modern culture.

Assessment methods

A thesis of no more than 100,000 words is submitted, which demonstrates original research that contributes significantly to the subject area. This is followed by an oral examination of the thesis (a viva voce examination, or viva).
