Surgical Care Practitioner (Orthopaedic Surgery)
Applicants must be currently registered as a nurse or allied health professional with a minimum of 18 months post registration. Applicants should also be employed as a SCP trainee and able to provide evidence of level 6 study (or equivalent). Applicants must also provide a sponsorship letter from their employer demonstrating: financial support to undertake the Royal College of Surgeons basic surgical skills course within the 1st year of the programme; employer's support for the release from practice for a maximum of 30 days in year 1 and 20 days in year 2.
Year 1 core modules: developing core surgical care practitioner skills; evidence-based practice. Year 2 core modules: orthopaedic surgical care practitioner skills; plus 1 option module.
A variety of assessment methods are used including practice-based competencies, a viva voce and written case studies.
