Advanced Clinical Practice (Cardiac Care)

This cardiac care course is part of an established MSc framework. It has been designed to develop advanced clinical skills of evidence-based approaches to cardiac practice. It is inter-disciplinary in approach allowing you to study modules in your own area of cardiac care, whilst developing core transferable skills relevant to advanced clinical practice. Cross-cutting themes of the programme include the development of advanced clinical decision-making skills, the ability to develop research informed practice and the development of autonomous advanced practice. If you successfully complete the course you will be able to apply learning to your area of cardiac care practice with advanced knowledge and core transferable skills relevant to your area of cardiac care. The course has been designed with flexibility and adaptability in mind to offer you an extensive list of optional modules with which to shape your learning in relation to your current clinical experience in cardiac care. You will also have the opportunity for career progression within your specialist area of cardiac care.

Entry requirements

Applicants must normally hold an appropriate health-related 1st degree or equivalent professional qualification appropriate to their area of study and be employed in a cardiac care environment.

Course modules

Core modules include: Advanced acute cardiology; designing research projects; dissertation; evidence-based practice. Optional modules include: Advanced physical assessment and disease management skills; arrhythmia management; diagnosis and management of heart failure; invasive management of common cardiology conditions.

Assessment methods

Assessment is both formative and summative and you are given feedback on the development of your advanced skills and underpinning knowledge throughout your period of study. Summative assessment is varied for each module. The modules are assessed by essay, OSCE and written examination.
