Advanced Social Work Studies
This course enables registered social workers to build on post qualifying training and practice experience; further enhancing and developing their knowledge and skills and to obtain a Master's qualification that also recognises their level of capability within The College of Social Work's professional capabilities framework at advanced level capabilities. In the 1st year students study 2 core modules: practice education stage 2 and advanced assessment skills. The 3rd module is either court skills for social workers or negotiated learning. In the 2nd year there are 2 core modules: research for practice and leadership and management. The 3rd module is either achieving best evidence or a specialist option which can be chosen in partnership with the student's tutor from modules within the University catalogue. In the final year students undertake a final project using research skills developed in the 2nd year, which is focused on a practice/service related issue. The final project is supported with an allocated dissertation supervisor. Modules are delivered at the Middlesbrough and Darlington campuses. Students are engaged through a creative range of methods. Learning tasks are contextualised to allow students to make sense and apply understanding.
