This MSc programme offers you an advanced level of study in specific aspects of mechanical engineering which are in demand from industry. It is an ideal bridging programme for those graduates seeking to register as a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to have at least a lower second class Honours degree in a related engineering discipline. Suitable subjects include mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, automotive engineering, mechatronics and other subjects with significant mechanical engineering content. In addition, international students will normally need at least 6.0 with no component below 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test.

Course modules

Modules include: Core modules are CAD/CAM and product development; machine design and finite element methods. Students are required to study 3 optional modules from: Automotive engineering and vehicle design or manufacturing systems; engineering practice or project management and enterprise; supply chain management or applied continuum mechanics; project.

Assessment methods

Assessment varies from module to module. The assessment methodology could include in-course assignments, design exercises, technical reports, presentations or formal examinations. For your MSc project you prepare a dissertation.
