LLM International Sports Law
International Sports Law is a subject that is growing in popularity. Not only are we seeing more interaction between athletes and civil law we are seeing more regulation than ever before for the law to prescribe acceptable behaviour on the pitch (criminal law) and appropriate guidance off the pitch (civil law).
The proposed course will guide you through the historical and societal motivation for a niche area of law – sports law. The arguments for and against the notion of lex sportiva will immerse themselves in every module giving you the opportunity to fully understand the validity of this area of law and its complexities.
The LLM will be taught by both sports law academics and industry professionals affording you the opportunity to gain an insight into the letter of the law and the law in practice which will strengthen your overall understanding of the topics and in turn the overall content. It is likely that you will have the opportunity to participate in law school activities, trips and conferences to further enhance your experience.
Whether students are studying in order to advance their career, change their career or because they are fascinated with this rapidly developing are of law it is expected each will develop their knowledge and critical powers.

You will have a Bachelor’s degree with 2:1 classification or an international equivalent. International students that require an IELTS must have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 (minimum of 6.0 in Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening, or recognised equivalent). Relevant academic experience in business, marketing or sport is desirable.
A degree in Law is not required for this programme, however applicants are expected to demonstrate a prior understanding of Law or Governance gained in either a work based or academic context. This should be clearly demonstrated in your personal statement and you may be asked to attend an interview to discuss this further.
