Specialised Translation (with Interpreting)
This course is designed to provide 1st-class training in specialised translation with interpreting. The programme offers you the opportunity to develop your translation, interpreting and language skills, to deepen your understanding of the workings of language as an essential tool of communication and to gain vital experience in the rapidly developing area of translation technology. The programme is delivered through a combination of lectures, interactive practical seminars, practical translation/interpreting assignments and hands-on experience with a wide range of translation/interpreting tools and technology.
A minimum of an upper 2nd Class undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline from a UK university, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard, and proven linguistic ability in 1 of the language pairs available within the programme. From English into Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Turkish.
Core modules: Language and translation; translation technology; scientific and technical translation; general interpreting; liaison and consecutive interpreting. Options: Accessibility to the media; language and automation; localisation; professional skills for translators; medical translation; subtitling; translating for voiceover and dubbing.
Assessment is carried out through essays, project work, take-home translation/interpreting assessments and in-class tests.
