GIS (Geographic Information Science)

This programme is designed to educate students in the theoretical, scientific and practical aspects of geographic information science, and covers a range of topics from quantitative spatial analytical techniques to web-mapping, mobile maps and location-based services.

Entry requirements

Normally a minimum of an upper 2nd Class Honours degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard.

Course modules

Core modules: applied building information modelling; data analysis; GIS principles and technology; mapping science; principles and practices of surveying; spatial data management; terrestrial data acquisition. Options: either survey project; or image understanding.

Assessment methods

The programme is delivered through a combination of lectures, practical exercises, and involvement in projects. Assessment is through written examination, coursework and project work.
