The course will explore and critique educational leadership and management theory, research and practice. It will encourage students to reflect on and challenge their practice as an educational leader or manager. Students will investigate how the intersections of policy and practice influence leaders and managers of schools, institutions and systems, and examine how leaders and managers can improve the quality of teaching and learning.

Entry requirements

2 years' leadership experience or, if you do not have such experience, we will ask you to demonstrate how your professional role(s) have enabled you to understand organisations and leadership, and how this programme may benefit your future career objectives.

Course modules

Core modules: Leading and managing change and improvement; doing and using leadership management and research. Options: coaching and mentoring principles, theory and application to practice; leadership for the learning community; leading in diverse cultures and communities.

Assessment methods

Teaching is delivered through face-to-face teaching, facilitation, multi-media presentations and activity-based learning. Each module is supported by materials on our virtual learning environment. The programme is assessed through coursework and the dissertation.
