Construction Business and Project Management

Construction business and project management is the management of a public or private sector construction organisation and the procurement and execution of their capital projects; this programme helps prepare students to be the future leaders in the construction industry; it provides graduates and professionals with the opportunity to rise to the challenge of managing a public or private sector construction business/organisation and the procurement and execution of capital projects. The aims of the course are to produce future leaders of the construction industry; to provide an opportunity for graduates and professionals within the construction industry to enhance their construction business and project management knowledge, skills and competencies; to promote professional development by reading for a higher degree in construction and project management and provide an advanced educational basis for further qualifications; the demand for high levels of business and project performance is pervasive.

Entry requirements

PgCert/PgDip: applicants should have been employed in the construction industry for at least 1 year at an appropriate level and possess a degree or equivalent qualification, in a science or engineering discipline. MSc: applicants should have been employed in the construction industry for at least 1 year at an appropriate level and possess an Honours degree in an appropriate science or engineering discipline, or equivalent professional qualification.

Course modules

Organisation and management; project management; construction business management and finance; construction legal studies; or sustainable development; sustainable urban regeneration; construction project management; construction procurement; project leadership.

Assessment methods

Essays; investigative reports; reflective writing; case studies; seminar presentations; role play and simulations; poster presentations; examinations; dissertation.
