Research spans a wide range of areas, from syntactic and phonological theory to applied linguistics and language planning; particular strengths are in the areas of syntax, phonology, language acquisition, and psycholinguistics; students and staff work on a wide range of languages, including local language varieties (Belfast English, Irish English in general, Irish and Ulster Scots).
