The programme is a teacher training course, recognised by the department for employment and learning (DEL) for those teaching in the post compulsory sector of education and training; modules cover all aspects of the teaching environment, such as classroom management, explanation and demonstration, planning and the opening and closing of a class; this course develops individual teaching and learning strategies to enhance in-class practices.

Entry requirements

You will normally be a lecturer or teacher in a college of further or higher education, or in an institution providing education and training to students 16 years of age and over; you must currently be in paid employment in a teaching role for a minimum of 8 hours per week in an FE or Adult Learning environment; you also must have already completed the Certificate in Teaching (CIT) from the University of Ulster before you can be admitted to this course. TOEFL and IELTS requirements: IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 550.

Course modules

The course comprises of two taught modules; students will take one module in each of the academic semesters; semester 1: action research in the classroom; semester 2: quality, innovation & change.

Assessment methods

Coursework and observations of classroom skills.
