Research proposals are invited in: fashion and industry; fashion design and trend; fashion promotion; fashion product innovation; fashion marketing.
1st or 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent in relevant subject; initial registration usually for MPhil, with transfer to PhD dependent on completion of MPhil requirements and evidence of sufficient aptitude and ability to sustain research project through to Doctoral award; proposal for research study and Curriculum Vitae.
Stage 1: context and method; exploratory practice. Stage 2: project development. Stage 3: final project.
The assessment is divided between written assignments and practical projects. In the 1st stage, both design/media projects and written texts are assessed. In the 2nd stage, students complete a research paper and stage, an interim exhibition. In conclusion, students submit a personal project, a reflective critical paper and publication.
Promising Researcher Fund: Designed to support academic members of staff at the early stages of their research careers or for staff re-engaging with their research; this fund is specifically for staff who have not previously been involved in research and may include development as well as research dissemination costs; the maximum award available is £2000; the Research Fund is designed to provide financial support, including dissemination costs, consumables, and travel and subsistence, for established academic researchers; the maximum award available is £5000; the Cluster Fund is designed to promote the development of collaborative research through research groups and clusters; the proposal must demonstrate interaction and cross fertilisation of ideas across the University and within the external research community; projects should result in an output which is attributable to at least 1 member of the research group or cluster and it is expected that the funding should lead to an application for external research grant and contract funding, such as the AHRC, to achieve the aims of the Cluster; the maximum award available is £4000; Research Sabbatical Fund is designed to provide remission from teaching of between 15 days to 1 semester either in a block of time or dispersed through the year to complete a research project which will result in a significant internationally recognised research output.
