University for the Creative Arts
This course is constructed around the development of individual research into textile culture, craft and design, allowing students to combine previous experience of textiles practice with a personal project. Tutorials, lecturers, seminars and critiques support the development of your research and practice. As part of the course students are expected to undertake some form of professional practice, such as a live brief, competition, application for a residency, funding or a work placement.
A good Honours degree (normally 2.1 or above) or equivalent qualification in a chosen subject or a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience, demonstrating the ability to study at postgraduate level. Applicants may be invited to interview and asked to present a portfolio. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum 5.5 in each component) or equivalent.
Stage 1: studio practice, theory and analysis; exploratory practice. Stage 2: reflective practice. Stage 3: final project.
Both your practical work and theoretical writing is assessed. This may include essays, presentations, research papers or catalogues.
