University for the Creative Arts

Fine Art

This course is open to artists, designers, illustrators, architects and theorists (including graduates in the humanities). Building upon the practical and conceptual concerns of contemporary art practice, students develop an advanced ability to conceptualise and research in relation to their own practice. This course draws on a number of industrial links and expertise from a range of creative fields. The course is supported by seminars, tutorials, workshops, work-in-progress sessions, study visits and critiques.

Entry requirements

A good Honours degree (normally 2.1 or above) or equivalent qualification in a chosen subject or a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience, demonstrating the ability to study at postgraduate level. Applicants will be required to attend an applicant day and bring their portfolio for assessment.

Course modules

Stage 1: context and method; exploratory practice. Stage 2: project development. Stage 3: final project.

Assessment methods

A range of assessment methods are used, including reviews of coursework, presentations and written submissions. Peer and self-assessment are also used at appropriate points to enable more self-critical perspectives in thinking about your work and practice.
